The 5-a-side in the USA is now a booming national phenomenon. José Trujillo, owner of the new FUTBOL CLUB STL in St. Louis felt there was a need for a venue entirely dedicated to Soccer, a club where you could play in quality indoor facilities even in the harsh winters of Missouri. His basic idea was to include 5-a-side in all its variations to offer users the most complete experience possible.
The project was developed inside an industrial shed using a total area of about 43,400 sq ft to build three 5-a-side fields (100’x 48′-5″), two soccer fields (105’x49′-6″) and one futsal field (97’x39′).
For the 5 a side and soccer fields we used latest-generation very high-density non-infill turf with 27,500 stitches per m2. Thanks to its double filament and reinforced backing, it’s the optimal product for highly stressed fields considering the high number of players in limited playing surfaces. Underneath the synthetic lawn, in contact with the cement base, we placed a 10 mm shock pad of expanded polyethylene with 60 kg/m2 density in order to get the elastic response that the rubber less product does not have. The futsal field instead was treated with grey polypropylene plates.
The 5m high 5-a-side fields, were entirely covered with the WSBSPORT system of nylon nets so that the ball can never leave the area or interfere with other activities.
The club house was configured as a single open space and the whole area was air conditioned. The open space allowed us to create interesting leisure spaces and limit construction cost.
Fortunately, the Covid epidemic did not interfere with the work in progress and the center was opened on July 13th 2020.
From this day, St. Louis will not only be “First in booze and first in shoes”, but also First in 5-a-side!
