Tell us about your experience in the hospitality and sports sector?
After working for more than 25 years in the hospitality and nightlife industry (hotels, bars and clubs) and raising 4 kids, I realized it was time to change sector. During that period lots of foreigners asked me what to do to stay in Mauritius and that gave me idea of creating a property agency. I am now in my 8th year in the property market have time to pursue my passion for creating new concepts in the sports market.
How did you get to know WSBSPORT and why did you decide to partner with the company?
I was working on the creation of a sport center and had the choice of 2 companies to work with. WSBSPORT were very welcoming and professional, It was my obvious choice.
I love creating concepts for my clubs from the start without an architect or internal designer. We were creating the TECHNOSPORT concept and contacted Miguel for several quotation. It was easy to work with him and we became very close and the business relationship became a friendship. He was very professional and now we have a partnership to develop the Mauritian market.
How can WSBSPORT compete in this market?
The quality and service we have is excellent and we have a great network of contacts here. We will approach hotels and smart cities and sports projects based my previous experience in the hospitality sector.
The soccer business is growing in all markets and all demographics. What can you tell us about the market and players in Mauritius?
In Mauritius, we have plenty fans of soccer, but I will say the market has already been flooded with Chinese product. My main project is padel as there are only 2 courts here and it is a good market for the hotel industry to embrace. and I also have the perfect local partner who has won 10 times the padel French championship during the 90’s so he can endorse the project from the start.
What are the smart cities and sports projects around the island? Could you please expand?
In the island we already have 3 indoor soccer centers with around 12 fields, 2 padel courts and some fitness centres and pools but there is a lot to come. At the same time it’s a small island but plannings and good use of the territory is essential. Smart cities and sports centers are about creating a new city with apartments, offices, commercial area and sport centers in a smart and planned manner. About 5 soccer complexes already have the approval certificate for development in Mauritius so we will invest in researching how we can develop business together. Soccer in Mauritius will always remain the most popular sport activity so it is possible we will have new projects in the future.
